Background

Thad DeVassie has spent nearly two decades consulting on various communication challenges on behalf of a diverse group of clients including globally recognized retailers, start-ups and emerging businesses, higher education, not-for-profit organizations, and agriculture commodity groups. In 2010, he launched his own consulting practice – Ratchet Strategy + Communication – and began partnering with CMA’s Columbus office.

Thad excels in helping organizations both large and small define their message and tell stories that are as accurate and forthcoming as they are compelling. He finds himself in his element when leading the creative process and working alongside creative talent of all stripes. Through a balance of right- and left-brain thinking, he has the unique ability to maintain trust and relevance in the artist studio while also earning confidence from executive leadership. He is an effective communicator that strategically connects organizational objectives with creative solutions – and then articulates it in ways that makes sense to everyone with a stake in the outcome.

Thad works with the CMA team helping guide strategic, integrated creative campaigns for a number of clients.  His work includes creative concepts and message development using resources in video production, animation, design, and web/online engagement.

Meet Thad

What special power would you like to have?

Foolproof BS detection. It would allow us to get on with what really matters.

What are you most passionate about?

Doing the right thing and taking my own small steps to make a difference. 140+ million orphaned children is wrong. Lack of food and clean drinking water is wrong. There are an infinite number of wrongs – and each of us can and should do more to help turn the tide of a wrong that matters to us personally.

If you could give the world SOME SIMPLE advice, what would it be?

Establish your priorities.

Give your best effort.

Remember that nobody is irreplaceable.

Don’t take yourself too seriously.

What do you do to recharge your batteries?

Write (even though it’s also a core function of my work), read, paint, seek out what’s next in independent music, and spend time with my family.
