Background

Working out of CMA Global North (Des Moines), Roxi Beck has been on the CMA team since February 2007. She joined CMA looking for an opportunity to help folks in the food industry solve challenges, a passion for applying strategy in new ways and the opportunity to work with thought-leading team members who laughed in the face of “business as usual.” As a strategic PR pro, Roxi helps her clients focus on “success at the end of the day.” Having that frame of reference allows for strategy formulation, tactical planning and process implementation. From there, it’s all about putting together the best team, managing expectations and clenching the goal. Roxi believes that having genuine motives, a straight-forward approach and solid communication skills can move mountains (this applies to clients, adversaries, kids, life partners, pets… pretty much anyone).

Meet Roxi

If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?

Simple – the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” If I had the chance to pick a few pieces of advice, depending on the people with whom I was talking, here’s what I’d say:

  • When talking with people who are in leadership roles, nurturing the potential of others: Your job is not to make it easy… it is to make it possible.
  • When talking with kids: Do your best, then move on.
  • When talking with procrastinators, I’d quote Henry Ford: “You can’t build up a reputation on what you are going to do.”
  • When talking with a pessimist who doesn’t believe in reincarnation: Find a way to love the life you have… it’s the only one you get.

If you could have a room full of any one thing, what would it be?

I feel like I already have it: Blessings.

Tell us about your family.

I’m the very lucky wife of Chris, mama of Calista and Chatham and “master” of Franklin and Parker – our canine kids.

When have you “been there” for your clients?

My hope is that my clients feel I’m always there for them. If that’s not the case, I’m not meeting my promise as their partner. A specific example was pulling together a blogger tour of Iowa’s corn industry when the stakes were high, the time was short. Though much was stacked up against the project ever coming to fruition, I organized a highly skilled and competent team to utilize each of their unique talents and personalities to make the tour a success.
