Laura Cornett
Background
Laura Cornett is a skilled public relation specialist with experience in problem solving, writing and editing news and promotional content, and research and developing strategies to build working relationships for her clients. She works and lives in Kansas City and joined the CMA team in January 2011. She is involved with association management and development for the non-profit organization, The Center for Food Integrity.
Prior to joining CMA, Laura was in public relations working with not-for profit clients and associations. She has experience in developing and managing marketing activities as well as prospecting, qualifying and securing sponsors. She has created fundraisers for Synergy Services, developed social media strategies for Catholic Charities’ events and has written promotional content for the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Laura grew up in Kansas City and has a B.A. from Park University, majoring in public relations and journalism. She has earned numerous awards for her feature stories, 2010 Journalist of the Year, 2010 Golden Pen Award and 2010 Outstanding Civic Engagement. On her days off, she likes to volunteer at Cherith Brook, a catholic worker house and handing out sack lunches with her family. She is passionate about enjoying life and loves red meat.
Meet Laura
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was a child, I would watch people- listen to their conversations, observe their connections and wondered about their story. I wanted to find the story in everything and everyone; I wanted to be a journalist.
Cause you’re most passionate about?
Hunger- no one should be going hungry. With science and technology advancing in our food system, there is enough food to feed the world!
If you could have a room full of any one thing, what would it be?
Chocolate- dark chocolate, white chocolate, and chocolate Mounds; chocolate makes my world go round!
